Are you often feeling like time is slipping away from you? Do you frequently use the excuse that you don't have enough time to do things? Even if you've taken time management courses in the past, you may struggle to apply those principles consistently. It's important to remember that time is a precious and non-renewable resource. Once it's gone, you can't get it back. To make the most of your time, consider understanding how God wants us to do with it. Allah created us and the time for us. All praise be to God.
What God wants us to do with Time?
Allah says in the Quran,
He is the One Who created death and life in order to test which of you is best in deeds. And He is the Almighty, All-Forgiving. (67:2)
Allah created death and life and determined our time in this world. Our time in this world is a period of test. Allah tests us to see who has the best deeds, not the most.
Who determines good or evil deeds? Allah is the Almighty, and He decides. He gave us guidelines through Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). If we falter, Allah is all-forgiving, turning back to Him. Subhanallah (Glory be to God). This verse alone is clear enough about how to use our time.
How do we use our TIME?
We humans are always busy, constantly doing things 24/7! Even when we think we're doing nothing, our minds are still active, or in today's distracted world, we're scrolling up and down on our screens. What's common among all of us? We all have 24 hours in a day. What's different? We all have different priorities in how we spend those hours!
Time is finite and fixed for us by Allah SWT. Therefore, I can't manage or control it. Instead, Allah gave me free will to choose. I can control my priorities and am accountable for my choices because this world is a test for me! Subhanallah.
No more excuses: "I don't have time." The truth is that I did not prioritize this. Imagine standing in front of Allah on the Day of Judgment. If Allah asks us about a missed prayer, would we say, "We did not have time because we wanted to do..."? The fact is, we did not prioritize it.
How should we prioritize our deeds to pass the test?
Here are the key priorities:
1. Our first priority is maintaining our five daily prayers and maintaining a constant relationship with the Quran.
2. Remember Allah in everything we do by elevating our intentions.
3. Stay away from everything that would distract us from remembering Allah.
insha'Allah, you will feel the Barakah during your time.
In the coming weeks, I will continue writing about making the best use of your time by integrating God-centered (TaQwa) habits into your life. insha'Allah. Stay tuned.
Have a blessed Friday! Dua'as requested.
