Have you ever found yourself rushing to achieve the outcomes that you need? Simple daily chores include catching a bus, reaching an appointment, or achieving more important life goals. Did you ever make a sprint to avoid missing the prayer unit before the Imam goes to Ruku’ (bowing down position)? I did!
When you plan your day, do you give enough breaks in between, or do you run from one task to another tirelessly until you find yourself exhausted? Are you someone who constantly worries about the outcomes of your tasks rather than planning and executing your actions at the best? Have you ever felt fulfilled with your efforts, although you have yet to achieve the expected outcomes?
Can we rush or not?
Allah said to Prophet Muhammed (Peace and blessings upon him) as he hurried to recite and memorize the revelations while receiving them.
Do not rush your tongue trying to memorize a revelation of the Quran. It is certainly upon Us to make you memorize and recite it.
(Quran 75:16-17)
Exalted is Allah, the True King! Do not rush to recite a revelation of the Quran O Prophet before it is properly conveyed to you, and pray, “My Lord! Increase me in knowledge.
(Quran 20:114)
Allah informs the Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) to do the following.
Be present and mindful of revelations, as revealed to him via angel jibril (a.s).
Don’t rush to recite or memorize (An outcome prophet (peace be upon him) tried to achieve)
Rely entirely on Allah about the outcome.
Make Du'a to increase the prophet’s knowledge.
This reminds us that outcomes are always with Allah. We need to do our actions mindfully, seek Allah’s permission for a beneficial outcome to happen, and fully detach from the outcomes.
With the genocide that is going on in Gaza and beyond (may Allah help and protect them against the wrongdoers), we are deeply saddened not to see an end to it even after a year. Sometimes, it disappoints many of us as we demonstrate our support for our brothers and sisters individually and collectively. Look what Allah says:
Do not think O Prophet that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them until a Day when their eyes will stare in horror—
(Quran 14:42)
Subhan Allah. We have to detach from our outcomes and focus on our actions.
In Islam, the actions are rewarded according to their intentions.
Umar ibn al-Khattab reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, deeds are only with intentions, and every person will have only what they intended. Whoever emigrated to Allah and His Messenger, his emigration is for Allah and His Messenger. Whoever emigrated to get something in the world or to marry a woman, his emigration is for that to which he emigrated.”
Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 54, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1907
Therefore, we must set our intentions for our actions, act upon them with Ihsan, and fully submit to Allah with the outcomes. May Allah guide us in every action that we take.
What to do
When you plan, don’t make it so rigid but flexible.
Set intentions for your daily tasks
Make du'aas for each of them as much as possible.
Don’t hurry in your actions, but be mindful and do your best.
If you find blessings in one of them, stick to it (remember, make it flexible)
Fully detach from your outcomes.
With Du'aas
